Thailand's main airport was officially declared the 'top location of 2012' by the Instagram team after more than 100,000 photographs were taken there over the course of 2012. The south-east Asian country also provided the second place on the list, which went to the Siam Paragon shopping centre. Third place went to a more obvious tourist attraction - Disneyland, in Anaheim, as visitors rushed to memorialise their stay in 'The Happiest Place On Earth'.

In at number two, Siam Paragon is clearly such a shoppers' paradise that they can't help but take away the Instagram memories

Instagram has fast become one of the web's most popular tools for producing colourful depictions of spectacular sights.
So it is no surprise that world-famous landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower and New York's Times Square feature in the list of the most popular settings for Instagram pictures in the past year.
But what may be more unexpected is the identity of the location which topped the list - Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport.

San Francisco's AT&T Park is a Major League Baseball ground in San Francisco and occasional sporting and musical events venue. It was the fifth most popular Instagram picture location

What is it with airports and Instagram? Los Angeles International Airport came in sixth most popular

Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles was also on the list, coming in as the seventh most popular Instagram location

Third place went to a more obvious tourist attraction - Disneyland, in Anaheim, as visitors rushed to memorialise their stay in 'The Happiest Place On Earth'.
Other destinations in southern California to make it into the top 10 included LAX airport, Staples Center and Santa Monica Pier.
Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles was also on the list, as was the stadium of the Dodgers' great rivals, the San Francisco Giants.

Home to NBA's Los Angeles Lakers, Staples Centre in California was the eight most popular Instagram location

Santa Monica Pier in Los Angeles is a large double-jointed pier located at the foot of Colorado Avenues and the world's tenth most popular location for taking Instagram pictures

The bright lights of Times Square attracted enough amateur photographers to take fourth place on the Instagram list.
But the Eiffel Tower came no higher than eighth - the Paris landmark was the only location outside the U.S. or Thailand to reach the top 10.
As well as holiday destinations, Instagram users are notorious for sharing arty snaps of food and cringe-worthy self-portraits taken in the mirror.
