Divas in dis-dress: Nicki Minaj and Christina Aguilera top list for worst outfits at American Music Awards

Standing out: Christina Aquilera and Nicki Minaj lead the worst dressed list as they hit the red carpet at the American Music Awards on Sunday night held at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles While teams of celebs glittered in gold on the red carpet at the American Music Awards on Sunday night - two celebs who certainly didn't blend in with the crowd were Nicki Minaj and Christina Aguilera. The divas both opted for eye-catching looks - but ultimately pushed at the fashion boundaries a little too much. Christina, 31, sporting a very orange fake tan, squeezed her generous curves into a tight-fitting purple wrap-around dress, split to the thigh.

Nicki, meanwhile, slipped into a garish neon sleeveless dress, with her blonde hair set in a voluminous, curly style. They were not the only ones to get it wrong. Cyndi Lauper wore striped tights and a bizarre jacket complete with tartan detailing while socialite Phoebe Price donned a garish gold sequined dress, which didn't match up to the likes of Heidi Klum and Taylor Swift's gold offerings.

Bright night: Nicki, who is nominated for four awards, wore a neon dress while Christina slipped into a purple number split to the thigh Kelly Clarkson hit a low note in her tight leather dress, while Carrie Underwood couldn't pull off her futuristic blue frock - but thankfully sported two other ensembles which left her looking lovely. There were some questionable outfits from some of the men too; Black Eyed Peas singer will.i.am donned a quirky black and gold ensemble while Sean Kingston slipped on a wild print jacket. Korean singer Psy, who has become and overnight hit with his Gangnam Style track, left a little to be desired with a pair of sequined trousers.
