Game for a try: A barefoot Lady Gaga tried her hand at a football game with the local children in a Rio de Janeiro slum she visited on Thursday She is one of the world's most successful pop stars, and one of the wealthiest. But Lady Gaga showed her charitable side on Thursday during her stay in Brazil, when she visited some of the poorest communities in Rio De Janeiro, known as favelas. The 26-year-old singer ditched her more usual outrageous ensembles to journey into the Cantagalo slum, where she tried her hand at a game of soccer. Two worlds colliding: Lady Gaga plants a kiss on a delighted youngster's face while posing next to him on a bike 'We even played football. They were so good it was crazy!' she wrote on her Twitter page.alongside a photograph of herself barefoot, trying out her ball skills. She was clearly touched by her visit which involved her learning about programmes in the neighbourhood to benefit the local children. 'Today was the best day I've ever had, had so much fun ,' she tweeted. 'I'll never forget Rio, you lit my heart into flames.' Biker chic: Gaga still flashed some flesh in her dress which featured slits along one thigh The You and I singer, who is currently in Rio as part of her Born This Way Ball world tour, looked relatively low key in a colourful white dress and high heeled black shoes which she soon took off to go barefoot. However, she still managed to flash a little flesh, with one side of the dress showing several slits down her thigh. She planted a kiss on one delighted youngster as she posed for photographs on the back of a motorbike, before entertaining a group of children with a song. Down at heel: Gaga soon lost her black high heeled shoes to walk barefoot among the inhabitants of the favela Roses are blue: The singer posed with a pretty blue flower as she strolled through the shanty town A wave and a smile: The superstar singer said she had experienced 'the most fun' on her visit 'Today I pledge 1 million dollars to New York & The American Red Cross for Hurricane Sandy Relief,' she wrote on her website. 'If it wasn't for NYC: the Lower Eastside, Harlem, the Bronx and Brooklyn, I would not be the woman or artist that I am today. 'New York is relentless ambition, a drive to succeed, a place where there is a natural pursuit of diversity through compassion.
